We employ the de facto classification of Reinhart and Rogoff (2004) that allows us to estimate the impact of relatively long exchange rate regimes on currency crises with much greater precision. We find that pegged regimes significantly decrease the likelihood of currency crises compared with floating regimes. By using the combined data of exchange rate regimes and the existence of capital controls, we also find interesting evidence that pegged regimes with capital account liberalization significantly lower the likelihood of currency crises compared with other regimes. These results are robust to a wide variety of samples. From the standpoint of the macroeconomic policy trilemma, we can conjecture that pegged regimes with capital account liberalization are substantially less prone to speculative attacks, because they can enhance greater credibility in their currencies by abandoning monetary policy autonomy.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_10007_description_14":{"attribute_name":"備考","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_description":"文部科学省科学研究費(若手研究(B))2005年度~2007年度、研究課題番号:17730166\n文部科学省科学研究費(若手研究(B))2008年度~2009年度、研究課題番号:20730218","subitem_description_type":"Other"}]},"item_10007_link_17":{"attribute_name":"関連サイト","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_link_text":"KAKEN : 科学研究費助成事業データベース","subitem_link_url":"http://kaken.nii.ac.jp/d/p/18530210.ja.html"},{"subitem_link_text":"KAKEN : 科学研究費助成事業データベース","subitem_link_url":"http://kaken.nii.ac.jp/d/p/20730218.ja.html"}]},"item_10007_publisher_25":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"Institute for foreign studies Kobe city university of foreign studies"}]},"item_10007_text_11":{"attribute_name":"著者所属機関","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_text_value":"Kobe City University of Foreign studies"}]},"item_10007_text_26":{"attribute_name":"分類","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_text_value":"JEL classification:F31,F33"}]},"item_access_right":{"attribute_name":"アクセス権","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_access_right":"metadata only access","subitem_access_right_uri":"http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_14cb"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Esaka, Taro"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"329","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]}]},"item_keyword":{"attribute_name":"キーワード","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_subject":"Exchange rate regimes","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"capital controls","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"capital account liberalization","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"currency crises","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"macroeconomic policy trilemma","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"speculative attacks","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"eng"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"research report","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_18ws"}]},"item_title":"De facto exchange rate regimes and currency crises : are Pegged regimes with capital account liberalization really more prone to speculative attacks?","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"De facto exchange rate regimes and currency crises : are Pegged regimes with capital account liberalization really more prone to speculative attacks?"}]},"item_type_id":"10007","owner":"22","path":["75"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"公開日","attribute_value":"2008-10-01"},"publish_date":"2008-10-01","publish_status":"0","recid":"1213","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["De facto exchange rate regimes and currency crises : are Pegged regimes with capital account liberalization really more prone to speculative attacks?"],"weko_creator_id":"22","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2023-06-23T13:13:53.529009+00:00"}
